Description (No Spoilers)
If you’ve followed my recommendations these last few months, then you already know sci-fi is usually NOT my thing. So trust me when I say… I was not planning on watching The Boroughs.
But one of my closest friends kept insisting I had to give it a chance and promised me it wasn’t going to be scary. Well… that promise lasted about 10 minutes because suddenly there’s a giant spider on my screen and I immediately questioned my life choices 😂.
Thankfully, I kept watching… and honestly? I got completely entertained by this series.
The story follows a man grieving the loss of his wife. Before passing away, she had already chosen a retirement community where she hoped they would eventually live together. At first, he refuses the idea completely, but little by little he starts building friendships with the other residents and adjusting to this new stage of life.
Then everything changes when a mysterious death shakes the community.
What starts as a quiet retirement setting slowly turns into a strange mystery where the residents begin realizing something much bigger may be happening around them. Instead of ignoring it, they band together to uncover the truth.
And that’s what surprised me the most about The Boroughs. Beneath the sci-fi elements, this is really a story about loneliness, friendship, grief, aging, and people refusing to give up on each other.
The episodes move fast, the mystery keeps growing, and before you realize it… you’re already halfway through the season.
Why I Recommend It
I never thought I’d be recommending a sci-fi series on My Mood Watch… but here we are 😂. What made The Boroughs work for me is that the mystery and characters are stronger than the actual sci-fi elements. Even if you usually avoid this genre like I do, there’s a very good chance this one still hooks you.
It also has that perfect “one more episode” energy where every chapter gives you just enough answers while opening up even bigger questions.
• A sci-fi mystery that feels surprisingly emotional and easy to watch
• Fast binge with characters you genuinely end up caring about
