Ransom Canyon is a Netflix romantic drama set in a small Texas town where love, family rivalries, secrets, and battles over land are constantly intertwined.
Starring Minka Kelly as Quinn O’Grady and Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland, the series centers on their complicated relationship while also following several families whose lives and legacies are connected to Ransom Canyon.
Season 2 expands the story beyond Quinn and Staten, giving the other characters stronger storylines and adding even more romantic complications. Ben Robson, known for playing Craig Cody in Animal Kingdom, joins the cast as Oliver, Quinn’s new love interest.
With eight new episodes filled with relationships, secrets, and small-town drama, Season 2 is faster-paced and easier to follow than the first.
Why I Recommend It
I enjoyed Season 2 much more than the first.
The first season felt slow while I was trying to understand the characters, family connections, and complicated story. Season 2 still has plenty of entanglements, but the different storylines are easier to follow and much more entertaining.
I especially liked that the season wasn’t focused exclusively on Quinn and Staten. Several characters were given their own storylines, creating more drama throughout the entire town. Adding Ben Robson as Quinn’s new romantic interest was also a great choice—especially for those of us who remember him as Craig Cody in Animal Kingdom.
However, Quinn’s overly soft and sweet voice sometimes feels disconnected from a character who owns a business, is a talented musician, and carries so much responsibility. I would love to see a stronger side of her in the next season.
I also felt the music festival performances received too much screen time. One full song would have worked, but three performances felt excessive.
Despite those complaints—and the many moments when I wanted to shake both Quinn and Staten—Season 2 kept me entertained and left me ready for Season 3.
