Description (No Spoilers)
If you loved Dan Levy in Schitt's Creek, this is going to feel familiar… but also very different.
Big Mistakes is a dark comedy with a crime twist that follows two siblings who make one bad decision trying to do something meaningful for their grandmother before she dies… and that one decision quickly spirals into something much bigger. What starts as a one-time situation turns into a series of increasingly messy “jobs” that pull them deeper into the world of organized crime — and they are clearly not built for it.
Dan Levy not only stars in the series, but he’s also the creator behind it, bringing his signature sarcasm into a darker, more chaotic setting. Here, he plays a pastor — which only makes everything more ironic as things begin to unravel. And then there’s Laurie Metcalf as his mother, who completely steals every scene she’s in.
This is not your typical comedy. The humor is awkward, dry, and often uncomfortable in the best way possible. It leans heavily into dark humor, where the comedy comes from bad decisions, escalating consequences, and characters who are constantly in over their heads.
With only 8 episodes at around 30 minutes each, Big Mistakes is an easy binge you can finish in a weekend. Just don’t go in expecting Schitt’s Creek — this one is darker, messier, and a lot more chaotic.
Why I Recommend It
If you’re into dark humor with a little edge, this one is worth checking out. It’s not perfect, but it’s entertaining and different enough to keep you hooked.
• Dark comedy + crime = chaotic but fun binge
• Short episodes make it an easy weekend watch
